101. Al-Qari'ah
The Calamity · Meccan · 11 verses · Revelation order 30
The Surah takes its name from its first word al-qari'ah. This is not only a name but also the title of its subject matter, for the Surah is devoted to the subject of the Resurrection.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
101:2
مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ
Saheeh International
What is the Striking Calamity?

What is the Clatterer

What is the Catastrophe
101:3
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡقَارِعَةُ
Saheeh International
And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity?

Would that you knew what the Clatterer is

Ah, What will convey to you what it is, the Catastrophe
101:4
يَوۡمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلۡفَرَاشِ ٱلۡمَبۡثُوثِ
Saheeh International
It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed,

[It is] a Day when mankind shall be like scattered moths

The Day when people will be like moths scattered in confusion
101:5
وَتَكُونُ ٱلۡجِبَالُ كَٱلۡعِهۡنِ ٱلۡمَنفُوشِ
Saheeh International
And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up.

and the mount-ains like tufts of carded wool

And the mountains will be like flakes of wool
101:6
فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
Saheeh International
Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds],
Wahiduddin Khan
Then, the one whose good deeds weigh heavy on the scales

And then, he whose scales are heavy (with good deeds)
101:7
فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةࣲ رَّاضِيَةࣲ
Saheeh International
He will be in a pleasant life.
Wahiduddin Khan
will have a most pleasing life

Will live in happiness and contentment
101:8
وَأَمَّا مَنۡ خَفَّتۡ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ
Saheeh International
But as for one whose scales are light,
Wahiduddin Khan
But as for him whose deeds are light on the scales
Shabbir Ahmed
But as of him whose scales are light
101:9
فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةࣱ
Saheeh International
His refuge will be an abyss.
Wahiduddin Khan
the Abyss shall be his home
Shabbir Ahmed
He will be embraced by an Abyss
101:10
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهۡ
Saheeh International
And what can make you know what that is?

What will convey to you what this is like

Ah, what will convey to you what that is
101:11
نَارٌ حَامِيَةُۢ
Saheeh International
It is a Fire, intensely hot.

It is a blazing fire
