111. Al-Masad

المسد

The Surah takes its name from the word Lahab in the first verse.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

111:1

تَبَّتۡ يَدَآ أَبِي لَهَبࣲ وَتَبَّ

Saheeh International

May the hands of Abū Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.

Wahiduddin Khan

May the hands of Abu Lahab perish, may he be ruined

Shabbir Ahmed

Perished is the power of Abi Lahab, and perished is he

111:2

مَآ أَغۡنَىٰ عَنۡهُ مَالُهُۥ وَمَا كَسَبَ

Saheeh International

His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.

Wahiduddin Khan

Neither his wealth nor his gains will avail him

Shabbir Ahmed

His wealth and gains will avail him not! (69:27-28), (

111:3

سَيَصۡلَىٰ نَارࣰ ا ذَاتَ لَهَبࣲ‏

Saheeh International

He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame

Wahiduddin Khan

He shall soon enter a Blazing Fire

Shabbir Ahmed

He shall have to endure a fire blazing, glowing

111:4

وَٱمۡرَأَتُهُۥ حَمَّالَةَ ٱلۡحَطَبِ

Saheeh International

And his wife [as well] - the carrier of firewood.

Wahiduddin Khan

and also his wife who carries the fuel

And his wife, that carrier of slanderous tales, the firewood hauler

111:5

فِي جِيدِهَا حَبۡلࣱ مِّن مَّسَدِۭ

Saheeh International

Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber.

Wahiduddin Khan

with a rope of twisted fibre round her neck

Shabbir Ahmed

Will have her neck ornamented with a rope of palm-fiber. ((17:13). 'Jeed' = A neck decorated with an ornament
