وَٱلۡعَصۡرِ
Saheeh International
By time,
Wahiduddin Khan
I swear by the passage of time

103. Al-'Asr
The Declining Day · Meccan · 3 verses · Revelation order 13
The Surah takes its name from the word al-'asr occurring in the first verse.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
103:2
إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَفِي خُسۡرٍ
Saheeh International
Indeed, mankind is in loss,
Wahiduddin Khan
that man is surely in a state of loss

That man is, and has been, in a state of loss
103:3
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلۡحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوۡاْ بِٱلصَّبۡرِ
Saheeh International
Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.
Wahiduddin Khan
except for those who believe and do good deeds and exhort one another to hold fast to the Truth, and who exhort one another to stead-fastness

Except those who have chosen to be graced with belief, do works that help others and exemplify Truth and exemplify perseverance
