لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيۡشٍ
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh -
For the security of the Quraysh
For the privilege (of security) cherished by Quraish
Quraysh · Meccan · 4 verses · Revelation order 29
The Surah has been titled after the word Quraish in the very first verse.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
لِإِيلَٰفِ قُرَيۡشٍ
For the accustomed security of the Quraysh -
For the security of the Quraysh
For the privilege (of security) cherished by Quraish
إِۦلَٰفِهِمۡ رِحۡلَةَ ٱلشِّتَآءِ وَٱلصَّيۡفِ
Their accustomed security [in] the caravan of winter and summer -
their security in their winter and summer journeys
Enjoying their winter and summer caravans. (To Yemen and Syria respectively, that makes them affluent)
فَلۡيَعۡبُدُواْ رَبَّ هَٰذَا ٱلۡبَيۡتِ
Let them worship the Lord of this House,
So let them worship the Lord of this House
It infers, then, that they ought to serve the Lord of this House alone
ٱلَّذِيٓ أَطۡعَمَهُم مِّن جُوعࣲ وَءَامَنَهُم مِّنۡ خَوۡفِۭ
Who has fed them, [saving them] from hunger and made them safe, [saving them] from fear.
who provided them with food lest they go hungry and saved them from fear
Who has given them freedom from want, and has made them secure against fear. ('Ta'm' = Feeding = Taking care = Fulfilling needs = Freeing from want)
